Sights in Cannes

Cannes really has it all, from the Film Festival to the Lerins island and the bustling Croisette.

THE STAR STUDDED BOULEVARD DE LA CROISETTE

Synonymous with Cannes, La Croisette is a wide promenade that runs the length of the beachfront (that’s approximately 2km in total).  Taking a leisurely stroll along the Croisette is an absolute must; it's the perfect way to work up an appetite, spot a celebrity or soak up the year round sun and glitzy atmosphere offered by Cannes.

The original Palais des Festivals et des Congrès was built in 1949 in order to host the famous Cannes Film Festival, which began three years earlier in 1946.  The growing success of the Film Festival led to the construction of second, larger Palais in 1979.  Today the Palais hosts numerous regional, national and international conferences and events throughout the year, of which the International Film Festival remains the most famous, and the glamorous. This is the place to spot those film stars you only ever seen on the big screen. The walk up to the main entrance and the base of the building are dotted with the handprints and signatures of hundreds of stars.

A number of paintings from the 18th and 19th century are also on display, and many of these depict Cannes and Provence.  Guided tours are available.
