The Bay of Villefranche stretches from Cap Ferrat to Mont Boron, one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Founded at the start of the 14th century, the Old Town - right beside the sea, has a sense of old world charm and mystery very seldom seen in these days of fast foods and designer boutiques.

Villefranche citadel, built at the end of the 16th century, was occupied by the army from then until 1965. The town council became the new owner of the citadel and restored it in 1981. It now houses the town hall and the conference centre.

The Old Town of Villefranche is the perfect place to relax and it has succeeded in preserving its antique charm: colourful houses, narrow streets and steep staircases leading down to the harbour. Picturesque footpaths lead up to Mount Boron with fantastic views along the way.

Villefranche Old Town is also renowned for its restaurants that line the sea front and its quiet squares where you can find a place under a mimosa tree to relax and wind down in the heat of summer.

Real Estate in the Old Town is expensive, especially if it has a sea view, and is difficult to come by.

The Old Town of Villefranche is famous for its enclosed narrow walkways that were originally built to protect the towns people from bombardment. The village is renowned for its seafood restaurants and bars. Just a stroll around the staircases and little alleys of Villefranche old town gives you a feel for the history and beauty of this village.

There is easy access to and from Nice on the number 81 and 100 buses which depart from the central bus station in Nice and by a regular train service. The train station is perfectly located along the back of the bay a couple of minutes walk from the beach and restaurants.

The property choice in the old town is unique for the coast and feels more like a Provencal hill town, which is often reflected in the exclusive art galleries dotted along the Rue du Poilu, the main pedestrian street. Though it is hard to find property there are still sometimes some hidden gems within the web of Medieval streets.
